Early Morning Sun on Newbury

My newest painting, coming in at 70" wide and 34" tall.  I've been intentionally painting larger so far in 2018 and taking some time to develop the painting over a number of sessions.  This painting is inspired by the work of one of my favorite painters, George Nick.

I'd been cycling early in the mornings in May as the days got longer and realized that by 6:30 am the sun was hitting buildings on Newbury Street in such a nice way.  The architectural elements really stand out as three-dimensional forms in the early light, making the painting of the motif exciting to paint, yet quite a challenge to create the three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface.

And here I am in the painting to add some scale.  Interested in seeing this painting in the wall preview mode?  Click HERE.
